I’ve been in the information technology space for most of my adult life. During my free time though I enjoy sketching, painting and generally creating things.
This website GaryGeorge.me demonstrates several technical challenges that had to be met to successfully get this website live. In no particular order that is;
- Standing up a server in Google Cloud and allowing http/https traffic in and out of it. Making said server a LAMP through several commands in CLI through SSH.
- Purchasing a Domain and pointing my A records and MX records to my server and my DNS provider for email.
- Hardening the security of email by defining an SPF and DCIM TXT record to prevent spoofing.
- Installing WordPress manually with wget and editing all the config files through command line. No easy peezy cpanel auto install / config here.
- TLDR; This all means I understand and have working knowledge of Google cloud computing/Google Workspace, virtual machines, Linux command line, networking, DNS, LAMP stack, MYSQL commands, basic website configuration and management. Just to name a few.
I’ve been in IT managing company environments for over ten years which has involved but is not limited to supporting servers, phones (Mitel), to security, networking, large scale projects and even creating ticketing systems where they didn’t previously exist.
